A California man was arrested in Arizona for intentionally coughing on a gas pump handle while referencing the spread of coronavirus, police said.
The suspect, identified only as a 23-year-old man from Winterhaven, California, was busted after cops in Yuma received multiple reports of video circulating on social media Saturday showing the unsanitary deed, police said.
The suspect later told investigators during an interview at the Yuma Police Department that he got the idea “from other social media videos” he’d previously seen on the internet, police said.
He then posted the footage onto Snapchat, KYMA reports.
The suspect did not show any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, which has sickened at least 2,269 people and killed 64 others in Arizona as of Sunday, according to state health data.
The suspect is now facing charges of unlawful use of infectious biological substance, police said.
A message seeking additional comment from cops early Monday was not immediately returned.
