Clemson star Trevor Lawrence tests positive for coronavirus

Trevor Lawrence, one of college football’s leading voices to play this season amid the ongoing pandemic, has tested positive for the coronavirus, Clemson announced on Thursday.

“Trevor has authorized us this evening to announce that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in isolation,” coach Dabo Swinney said in a statement. “He is doing well with mild symptoms but will not be available for this week’s game against Boston College. While we certainly will miss Trevor, this is an opportunity for other guys to step up and we’re excited about competing against a very good BC team on Saturday.”

Clemson, the nation’s top-ranked team, will be without its star quarterback for at least this weekend as he is forced to isolate for 10 days per ACC regulations. Depending on the date of his positive test, he’s in danger of missing the Tigers’ matchup with Notre Dame on Nov. 7, just nine days away.

With Lawrence out, Swinney will likely turn to freshman backup D.J. Uiagalelei.
