Concerned about your mail-in ballot? Here's how to check its status

With only days until Election Day, if you haven't received your mail-in ballot, it might be cause for concern.

But there is a way to check your ballot's status to see if it's on its way and to verify if it was delivered safely.

ELECTION 2020: Harris County is offering 24-hour voting today at 8 polling locations

How to check your mail-in ballot's status in Harris County

To check your mail-in ballot's status, visit (click the link) and enter your last name, birth date and either your driver's license or state ID number, or the last four digits of your social security number. You can also call the Election Help Line at 713-755-6965

After that, you should see the status of your vote-by-mail application and mail-in ballot. It will tell you if your ballot is on the way or if it has been received.

Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received by 5 p.m. Nov. 4 to be counted toward the election.

Once you have completed your mail-in ballot, at this point, it's recommended to drop it off in person. Harris County's drop-off point is at NRG Arena.

What if I want to vote in person instead?

If you haven't received your mail-in ballot yet and want to vote in person instead, you may go to a polling place and cast a provisional ballot if your mail-in ballot application has not been canceled. Provisional ballots are separated from regular ballots and are counted after Election Day if the voter is found to be qualified.

If you need to cancel your absentee application, you can find information on the Texas Secretary of State's website.

If you have your mail-in ballot and would like to vote in person, bring the mail-in ballot to your polling place to surrender it. You'll receive a regular ballot instead.
