McCarthy pushes Pelosi to remove Omar from Foreign Affairs Committee

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to strip Rep. Ilhan Omar of her House Foreign Affairs Committee assignment on Tuesday — warning that Republicans would remove the Minnesota Democrat from the panel if they retook control of the chamber next year.

The House GOP leader stopped short of a direct threat to force a vote in the coming days aimed at censuring Omar or kicking her off the committee for comments she made comparing war crimes committed by the U.S. and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban.

The subject was discussed at a Republican leadership meeting on Monday and is expected to be brought up again at a GOP conference meeting on Tuesday, POLITICO previously reported.

"I think Nancy Pelosi should remove Omar from the Foreign Affairs committee,” McCarthy told “Fox & Friends” in an interview on Tuesday morning, describing the congresswoman as “an individual that has not once, but on numerous occasions been anti-Semitic.”

“I will promise you this,” McCarthy added. “If we are fortunate enough to have the majority, Omar would not be serving on Foreign Affairs, or anybody that has an anti-Semitic, anti-American view. That is not productive, and that is not right.”
