Sticking the landing: 'I'm running as a proud Democrat but I'm going to be an American president'

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - OCTOBER 22: Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden participates in the final presidential debate against U.S. President Donald Trump at Belmont University on October 22, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee. The debate is underway and we are beginning to see why Trump spent the last debate interrupting the entire time. He’s a truly mediocre mind, riddled by narcissism, without a single idea about anything. Asked about why Trump, with control over the Senate, has been unable to pass any more relief for Americans suffering under our pandemic.

Trump’s response was to blame Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Biden came back with the very hard fact that Pelosi and the Democratic-led House of Representatives did pass a relief bill over the summer and Trump and McConnell have sat around on their tiny hands like jerks. Trump responded that Democratic-led states are trying to get money … to help their constituents, I guess? It’s here that Joe Biden explained the fundamental difference between a Joe Biden presidency and whatever it is that Donald Trump has been doing.

JOE BIDEN: If I get elected I'm running as a proud Democrat but I'm going to be an American president. I don't see red states and blue states. What I see is American, United States. And folks, every single state out there finds themselves in trouble. They're going to start laying off, whether they're red or blue, cops, firefighters, first responders, teachers, because they have to balance their budget. And the founders were smart. They allowed the federal government to deficit spend to compensate for the United States of America.
