Tech issues can’t derail ‘Jagged Little Pill’ star at live performance

Talk about a mic drop.

While performing for a crowd for Today Tix’s music series at Tavern on the Green this week, Tony nominee Derek Klena — of shows including “Jagged Little Pill” and “Anastasia” — kept his cool and got the crowd laughing when the microphone went out.

“F–k it! We’ll do it live!” Klena yelled, referencing a now-viral video of Bill O’Reilly ranting when his microphone didn’t work. “We’re going off script, we are going off the rails. Live entertainment, right? Didn’t you miss this? Miss technical issues?” he kidded.

One of Klena’s bandmates even jokingly compared the snafu to the disastrous Broadway show “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.”

Klena ended up taking a short 10-minute break, and the venue was able to get everything fixed.

He was later joined by his “Jagged Little Pill” co-star Kathryn Gallagher. The show, which was nominated for 15 Tonys, comes back Oct. 21.

“Broadway is resilient, New York is resilient,” Klena told the crowd. He said of the show,  “At its core, it’s not about the obstacles you go through, but it’s how you grow from them, it’s how you learn from them, it’s how you react based on the trauma and the obstacle you experience.”

Despite calling “Jagged Little Pill,” variously, “uneven,” “ludicrous,” and an “after-school special, the Post’s Johnny Oleksinski also wrote that the show “boasts the best cast of singers now on Broadway, all of whom fiercely embrace the rage, angst and bluntness of Morissette’s 1995 album.” The cast, he wrote, “perform [writer Diablo Cody’s material] genuinely and with passion.”
