Texas Department of Public Safety

If you've been putting off updating your driver's license, now is the time to take care of it.

Gov. Greg Abbott suspended the requirement for Texas drivers to renew their license at the beginning of the pandemic, as economic hardship hit millions of Texans. That waiver ends soon.

The waiver applied to most drivers licenses that expired on or after March 13, 2020. But come April 14, the state will again require those drivers to update their licenses.

The Texas Department of Public Safety will expand the hours of driver's license offices all over Texas, including here in Houston. Those hours will now be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, closing at 5:30 p.m. Fridays.

But don't go rush there just yet.

In order to update your license, you'll need to schedule an appointment online.
