Two Proud Boys leaders ordered locked up pending Capitol riot trials

A federal judge on Monday ordered two leaders of the Proud Boys detained pending their Capitol riot trials — reversing another judge’s ruling that allowed them to remain free.

The suspects, Joseph Biggs and Ethan Nordean, were ordered locked up by DC federal Judge Timothy Kelly, who said they had carried out “political violence” as they and other former President Donald Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Kelly’s ruling overturned another DC’s judge’s order, who determined pretrial home confinement was suitable for Nordean as he awaited trial.

Biggs, of Florida, was also cut loose by a judge in his home state after his arrest in January.

Attorneys for the pair asked Judge Kelly to delay the order pending an appeal, but the judge shot down the request.

Nordean, of Washington state, has served as a chapter president of the far-right group and serves on its national council of “elders.”

Biggs, 37, has described himself as an “organizer” for the group, which is designated a hate organization by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Several members of the group were arrested in the wake of the riot, which left five people — including a a Capitol Police officer — dead.

Federal authorities have brought charges against more than 300 people for the siege, which was launched by pro-Trump supporters in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
